Wilder now has more than a hundred creatures in its field guide, and it was time to look at all of them together. We dumped every card and compared stats, keywords and costs across the whole pool, then played thousands of simulated matches. This is the result: the first major balance patch in Wilder's history.
The goal was not to nerf the cards you love. It was to make sure every strong card has an answer.
Resilient finally meets its match
Resilient is one of the most satisfying keywords in the game. The first time each turn a Resilient creature would die in combat, it clings on at 1 Health. We love it, and we did not want to weaken it. The problem was that almost nothing could get around it. Once a Resilient wall landed, your only plan was to hit it twice in one turn.
So instead of nerfing Resilient, we gave the rest of the wild ways to fight back.
- Venom now beats Resilient. When a Venom creature damages a Resilient creature in combat, it dies. No grit, no second chance. Snakes, spiders and platypuses are now the natural predators of tough walls.
- Toxin breaks Resilient for good. Once a creature has been weakened by Toxin, its Resilient no longer works. The -1/-1 is permanent, and so is the lost protection. Poison dart frogs and bullfrogs became a lot more interesting.
- New keyword: Relentless. Creatures this damages in combat cannot survive with Resilient. It goes to the apex predators whose kills are near-certain in the wild: Grizzly Bear, Tiger, Orca, Great White Shark, Saltwater Crocodile and Green Anaconda.
New ability: Expose
Camouflage and Guardian are great at protecting your board, and until now nothing could reach a Camouflaged creature at all. Expose changes that. An exposed enemy creature permanently loses Camouflage, Guardian and Resilient, and Expose is the only enemy effect in the game that can target a Camouflaged creature.
- Aye-aye: Percussive Foraging (3 Energy). The aye-aye taps on wood and listens for the hollow tunnels of hidden grubs. Nothing stays hidden from it for long.
- Andean Condor: Keen Eye (2 Energy). Condors spot a carcass from kilometres up. Your opponent's hidden creatures are no different.
More ways to finish the job
Resilient leaves a creature at 1 Health, so small, repeatable damage is its natural counter. Three creatures picked up a 1-damage ability they earned in the wild:
- Peregrine Falcon: Stoop (2 Energy). Deal 1 damage to an enemy creature. The fastest dive of any animal on Earth.
- Great Barracuda: Lightning Lunge (2 Energy). Deal 1 damage to an enemy creature.
- Texas Brown Tarantula: Urticating Hairs (2 Energy). Deal 1 damage to an enemy creature. It flicks barbed hairs off its abdomen at anything that bothers it.
The Tilcayo Tiger Cat goes Mythic
On September 17, 2026, researchers described Leopardus tilcayo in the journal Current Biology. It lives in the misty Yungas cloud forests of Bolivia, where the Andes meet the Amazon. It is smaller than a house cat, and it is the first new living wild cat species formally described in more than a century. Its name comes from the local communities, who knew it as the Tilcayo long before science did.
Part of the reason it hid for so long is that people mistook it for a stray kitten. We loved that, so we built the card around it.
Tilcayo Tiger Cat is now a Mythic:
- 2 Energy, 2/3.
- Pounce (1 Energy): deal 1 damage to an enemy creature.
- When it dies, it shuffles 3 Tilcayo Kittens into your deck. Each kitten is a 0-cost 1/1 that draws a card when played.
It is the first card in Wilder that adds cards to your deck. We were careful here, because deck size is the game's clock. Each kitten draws a replacement card when you play it, so it doesn't slow the game down. It's a free body that keeps your hand full.
Pounce also makes the Tilcayo a natural answer to Resilient: hit a Resilient creature once in combat, then Pounce to finish it.
Seasons empower more of the wild
Each season gives +1 Attack to creatures of its element. Water, our second-largest element, and Desert were never empowered at all. Two seasons now empower two elements:
- Spring: Forest
- Summer: Air and Desert
- Autumn: Grassland
- Winter: Tundra and Water
The second player forages
Going second is a real disadvantage in any card game. The second player now gets +1 Energy on their first two turns (Forage). In our simulations this brought the first-player advantage down to a much fairer split. Energy is still uncapped, so expensive late-game abilities remain playable.
Smaller fixes
- Camouflage now breaks when the creature attacks, exactly as its card always said. It also protects against Signatures and abilities, not just Actions, and the tooltip now says so.
- Common Chameleon's ability is now correctly spelled Tongue Lash, and Blue Whale's is Tail Smash.
- The Resilient, Venom, Toxin and Camouflage tooltips were rewritten to match the new rules.
What's next
This patch is about counterplay. The next one is about content. From the review, we already know the pool needs:
- More creatures for the smaller families and elements, especially Tundra and Desert.
- More Action cards, so every deck has a few spells.
- More top-end threats worth building around.
- A trim of the most common keywords, so each keyword feels special again.
Every change in this patch is versioned, so we can measure how the wild shifts and keep tuning. See you out there.
